Research Interests

My current research focuses on relationships between writing and LGBTQ issues in teacher education: what role can writing play in helping teacher candidates explore these issues? In the past, I have also focused on the re-segregation of US schools.  I am interested in effective ways to teach children from low-socioeconomic backgrounds; developmental writing and reading; and the teaching and writing of creative nonfiction, especially memoir and literary journalism.
