Teaching
Until 2009
I served as the Writing Coordinator for Niagara University’s
Office of Academic Support. There, I supervised the Writing
Center and taught the following courses:
Critical Literacy
This three-credit course integrates reading and writing
instruction to engage students in the rigors of college work.
Through strategic instruction and guided practice, students
strengthen reading skills and gain practice in writing college
essays. Through an exploration of the ways in which the news
media determines what we know, students are encouraged to think
critically.
Creative Nonfiction
Students will read and write creative nonfiction from a number
of sub-genres, including nature writing, personal essay/memoir,
profiles, and reportage, considering possibilities for
publication. They will explore the literature of reality—from
the power of true stories, to the fascination of odd facts, to
the revelation of insight.
Introduction to College Writing
This course is offered to students in the NUOP Pre-College
Summer Program. It introduces students to college-level writing
and research skills.
During the Spring, 2009 semester, I will teach Advanced Poetry.
I also hold an undergraduate degree in secondary education and
have taught a number of writing workshops to secondary students
and adults.
I serve as co-advisor to Niagara’s newly-revived literary arts
journal, The Aquila.
