I hold an MFA from the University of Pittsburgh’s Creative
Nonfiction writing program. I also serve as a creative
nonfiction editor for Trillium Literary Journal.
In my primary writing project right now, I’ve been able to blend
my love of creative writing with my passion for
education—particularly that of low-income children.
My manuscript, High Water Rising: One Community’s Modern-Day
Struggle to Maintain Integrated Schools, follows several
families involved in Wake County, North Carolina’s attempts to
integrate schools by socioeconomic status. This plan, in
response to court rulings limiting the use of racial
integration, has been both effective and extraordinarily
controversial.
